Russia bans a large batch of bananas from Ecuador

Russia has banned a large batch of bananas from Ecuador. According to Kazakh-Zerno.kz, 23 tons of these products infected with the polyphagous humpback fly, were found in Vladivostok’s port.

Specialists of the local administration of Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance in Russia) confirmed the case of the infection after an examination. The Federal Service reminded that the humpback fly is dangerous because it infects bananas, melons, and other products. As a result, the imports of bananas into the Russian Federation was banned, and they will be returned to Ecuador.

The ministry clarified that this year, 30 shipments of plant products with a total volume of 760 tons were not allowed to enter the country – pomelo, lemons, potatoes, etc. These infected products returned to the senders.

EastFruit previously reported that after the cut in the supply of bananas due to the Sangay volcano’s eruption, Ecuador plans to restore the volume of banana exports to Russia in the short term.
