For 9 months of 2020, the Sughd region of Tajikistan exported more than 15,700 tons of various types of dried fruits for a total customs amount of $5.7 million. The average cost of dried fruits was $363 per ton.
According to the Sughd Regional Department of the Customs Service of the Republic of Tajikistan, 11 countries both near and far have become importers of dried fruits from this region. In quantitative terms, Kazakhstan became the largest importer of Sugdian dried fruits with more than 5135 tons exported, followed by Iraq (4151 tons) and Russia (3780 tons). Germany imported 917 tons of various dried fruits and Turkey approximately 730 tons.
In monetary terms, the largest consumer was Russia again. Dried fruits were exported there for a total customs amount of $3.35 million. Products worth $848,000 were shipped to Kazakhstan and $594,000 to Iraq.

Less expensive products (mainly dried fruits and dried fruit mixtures) were exported to Kazakhstan at an average customs value of $165 per ton. The most expensive products, which averaged in price of $2650 per ton, were shipped to the United States. Over 23 tons of selected dried fruits were shipped to the US for a total customs amount of $61,345. The Czech Republic also purchased high quality dried fruits at a price of $2566 per ton where 3.7 tons of dried fruits were shipped for a total customs amount of $9500.
During this reporting period, the countries of Belarus, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Poland also became consumers of dried fruits from the Sughd region.
The Sughd region is the main exporter of dried fruits in Tajikistan and supplies dried apricots, grapes, plums, apples, peaches, pears, figs, other dried fruits, and dried fruit mixtures abroad. The exports of dried figs, grapes, apples, peaches, and pears decreased compared to the same 9 months of last year. In contrast, dried apricots, the most popular export type of dried fruits, increased significantly. They shipped only 8888 tons for a total customs amount of $3.52 million, but these figures exceed the data for 9 months of 2019 by 2341 tons and $1.25 million respectively.
Dried apricots make up about 57% of the total dried fruits exported by the region.
