Uzbek apricot exports this season will be at the level of the 2019 – forecast

This year, the season of fresh apricot exports from Uzbekistan started in mid-April – about ten days earlier than last year in mid-April – about ten days earlier than last year.

In the three months since the beginning of the export season, almost 57 thousand tons of these products were shipped to foreign markets, which is ten times more compared to the figure for the same period last year and six times more than in the same period of 2021

However, it should be noted that in the previous 2021-2022 consecutive years, there was a failure of apricot harvest in Uzbekistan due to weather anomalies, which resulted in high prices and a sharp drop in exports of this product. This season, a high yield and relatively low prices have increased fresh apricot exports from Uzbekistan. Therefore, it would be worth comparing export volumes in the current season with the indicators of the same period in 2018-2020, when Uzbekistan increased exports of fresh apricots, and in 2020 the country became the world’s second-largest exporter of this product in fresh segment, after Spain.

According to preliminary trade statistics, from April 16 to July 15, 2023, Uzbekistan exported 56,900 tons of fresh apricots worth $35.9 million.

As can be seen from the data, apricot exports from mid-April through mid-July 2023 are nearly on par with the figure for the same period in 2019 and 10% less than the record high in 2020.

Given that about 99% of the total volume of fresh apricot shipments from Uzbekistan falls in the April-July period, this season, the total volume of Uzbek apricot exports in physical terms will likely be at the level of the 2019 figure, EastFruit analysts conclude.

The apricot season in Egypt this year is the worst.
Climate changes led to a decrease in production, which led to an increase in prices, and despite this, the producers were not satisfied.
