This week, the Ukrainian market is experiencing a shortage of new-crop white cabbage, report analysts from the EastFruit project. According to farmers, this situation is due to a reduced supply of white cabbage on the market, as the hot weather has somewhat delayed the maturation of these crops on farms.
Specifically, now Ukrainian farms are offering white cabbage for sale at 18-25 UAH/kg ($0.44-0.61/kg), which is on average 63% more expensive than at the end of last week. As a reminder, a week ago prices for this product did not exceed 17 UAH/kg ($0.41/kg). Moreover, the quality of white cabbage has significantly decreased due to the spread of diseases and pests in the fields, which in turn has also allowed sellers to increase the prices of high-quality products.
Industry experts attribute the upward price trend to a rather limited supply of this product on the market. Most farms have already completed the season for early-variety cabbage, while later varieties have yet to enter the market in large quantities. Meanwhile, demand for this product remains very high, which further drives up prices.

It should be noted that at the moment, the price of cabbage in Ukraine is on average 2.7 times higher than the same period last year. In late July 2023, Ukrainian farmers were willing to ship cabbage at 6-10 UAH/kg ($0.15-0.24/kg). If the current sales rates of white cabbage persist, local farmers plan to continue attempting price increases in this segment.
