Prices for strawberries in Ukraine are decreasing for the second week in a row

The prices for local strawberries in Ukraine are decreasing again, analysts of the EastFruit project report. Experts claim the main reason for this to be the rapid increase in the supply of strawberries from the southern regions of the country. At the same time, growers say the demand is low.

As a result, in the face of fierce competition, growers were forced to significantly reduce the price of this perishable berry. Currently, Ukrainian growers offer strawberries at prices ranging from 100 to 130 UAH/kg ($3.31-4.30/kg), which is on average 30% cheaper than a week earlier.

According to producers, they are forced to reduce prices, primarily, due to an increase in strawberry supply on the market. Also, the price is under serious pressure from the growth in strawberry imports from Greece, Turkey and Spain, the price of which, as a rule, does not exceed 150 UAH/kg ($4.37/kg).

At the same time, most market participants agree that the price may fall even more at the end of May, when large volumes of open-field strawberries will go on sale.
