As previously reported by EastFruit, Morocco is successfully expanding its blueberry exports to Southeast Asian countries. In MY 2023/24, Morocco supplied 610 tons of fresh blueberries to the markets of Singapore and Malaysia, matching the success of the previous season. Additionally, Morocco has had a strong start to 2024/25 campaign, already delivering 55 tons of produce to these markets in December. Monitoring of supermarket shelves in Singapore in February 2025 further confirms the continued growth of Moroccan blueberries in these markets.
It is noteworthy that Moroccan blueberry exports to Malaysia in MY 2023/24 were more successful than those to Singapore. By delivering 288 tons to Malaysia, Morocco improved its results by 50% compared to MY 2022/23. Meanwhile, blueberry exports to Singapore decreased by 13%, totaling 322 tons.
In recent years, Singapore and Malaysia have been actively increasing their blueberry imports, providing additional opportunities for exporters, including Morocco. In MY 2023/24, imports to Singapore grew by 16%, and to Malaysia by 73%. Consequently, Morocco became the third-largest supplier of blueberries to Malaysia and the fourth-largest to Singapore, behind China, South Africa, and Peru.

The export period for Moroccan blueberries to Singapore and Malaysia lasts from December to June, with the peak occurring from March to May. During this time, Spain, the Netherlands, Peru, and China also supply blueberries, creating competition for Moroccan blueberries. While exports from the first two countries are lower than Morocco’s, China is currently the main competitor. Furthermore, in MY 2023/24, China significantly increased its blueberry supplies to both Singapore and Malaysia.
Given the increased competition, Moroccan blueberry exports in MY 2023/24 can be considered successful. However, to improve or maintain this result in the current season, exporters will need to focus even more on enhancing the quality of the berries.
It is worth noting that in April this year, a trade mission of exporters of fresh berries, citrus fruits, avocados, and other vegetables and fruits from Morocco to Singapore and Malaysia will take place.
