Morocco has successfully resumed its orange exports to the USA, following a significant decline in 2023, according to EastFruit. Impressively, in the first 11 months of 2024, Moroccan orange exports reached a new record high.
From January to November, over 20,000 tons of oranges were shipped to the American market, marking a 3.5-fold increase compared to 2023 and nearly 10% higher than the previous record set in 2022. Export revenues also hit a record $29.6 million.
Prior to 2013, Moroccan orange shipments to the USA were sporadic and irregular. However, since 2013, exports have been conducted annually. Morocco managed to export over 10,000 tons of oranges to the USA in both 2018 and 2022. Remarkably, last year, exports surpassed 20,000 tons for the first time.
Currently, the USA is the leading importer of Moroccan oranges, accounting for over 40% of Morocco’s total orange exports in 2024.

The peak export period for Moroccan oranges is from April to July. During this time, Morocco faces minimal competition, as the orange export seasons from Chile and South Africa are just beginning, while Mexico’s season is concluding. Notably, last year, Morocco extended its orange export season to the USA into September and October.
The primary exporters of oranges to the USA are Chile, South Africa, and Mexico, which collectively supplied nearly 85% of the oranges in 2024. Morocco, with a share of approximately 9%, confidently holds the fourth position, maintaining this rank since 2022.
As previously reported by EastFruit, climate change, water shortages, and severe droughts in Morocco contributed to the decline in orange production in 2023, leading to a record low in exports.
