According to EastFruit, Morocco is preparing to start a new blueberry production season, with forecasts predicting particularly optimistic results, Blueberriesconsulting informs.
From the beginning of December, the first harvests of early varieties will begin, marking the start of a campaign that will reach its peak in the following months.
Although production peaks between January and March, the months of April to June are expected to see optimal availability, thus responding to the growing demand in international markets.
In fact, although the peak of production is expected between January and March, the period from April to June would benefit from optimal availability, thus responding to the growing demand on international markets. The outlook for the 2024 season is also very promising.
The harvest is estimated to reach 80.000 tonnes, an impressive figure attributed to particularly favourable conditions.
Quoted by the specialist platform Agrimaroc, Juan Sainz, representative of the Frutta Group, which works closely with producers from different regions of the world, praises the particularly favourable climatic and agronomic conditions of this season.
Thanks to them, high-quality production is expected in the near future, an aspect that is particularly important for Morocco’s image on the global blueberry market.
“Moroccan blueberries are known for their high quality, but demand for high-value fruits is growing,” says Sainz.
The combination of an excellent product and advantageous logistical conditions makes Morocco one of the leaders in blueberry production. As a result, it attracts importers from all over the world, with demand dominated by Europe and the Middle East.
However, the Asian and North American markets remain present, demonstrating the international dimension of the sector.

The rise of the blueberry industry in Morocco is not limited to a simple question of quality. The country has managed to differentiate itself by innovating and offering specific varieties adapted to the demands of the international market.
This translates into more regular and sustainable production, assuring consumers of traceability and food safety that meets the strictest standards. Grown mainly in the Souss and Oriental regions, Moroccan blueberries benefit from an ideal climate and rich soils, factors that contribute to their sweet taste and firmness.
However, Morocco is facing increasing competition, especially from emerging producers and large traditional players. As global production volumes increase, Moroccan producers must continually adapt to remain competitive. To differentiate themselves, the country relies on innovative varieties and impeccable quality.
This strategy appears to be paying off, as Moroccan blueberries are increasingly in demand on international markets, including those in North America, which were particularly difficult to supply last year.
The specialist company expects the 2024 season to be smoother than the previous year, which was marked by tensions related to high demand in the European and Middle Eastern markets.
“Last year, we had difficulties supplying our customers in North America, due to pressure from other markets. This year, we have concentrated our efforts on better distributing business opportunities and avoiding these bottlenecks,” explains Juan Sainz.
