In Ukraine the prices of tomatoes are on a downward trend

This week, Ukraine has seen a decrease in the prices of imported tomatoes from Turkey, as reported by analysts at the EastFruit project. This price drop is attributed to a notable lack of interest from wholesale companies and retail chains in purchasing these tomatoes.

Currently, Turkish tomatoes are being offered by Ukrainian importers at prices ranging from 75 to 90 UAH per kilogram ($1.79 to $2.15 per kilogram), depending on quality and batch size. This represents an average decrease of 14% compared to the prices at the end of the previous working week. Despite a substantial supply of imported tomatoes, demand remains subdued. Consequently, significant unsold stock is accumulating in storage facilities, prompting sellers to reduce their prices.

Throughout the past week, tomato imports from Turkey have continued to rise, leading to an oversupply in the market. Due to sluggish sales, many wholesale companies and retail chains have cut back on their purchase volumes, opting to acquire new supplies only as their current inventories are depleted.

Notably, despite recent price reductions, current prices for imported tomatoes in Ukraine remain 10% higher than the same period last year. Key market stakeholders have indicated that if the sales volume for tomatoes does not pick up soon, further price reductions may occur, potentially persisting until the end of February this year.
