In Ukraine, prices are reduced for both local and imported apples

The season of early varieties of apples in Ukraine is already in full swing, analysts of the EastFruit project report. But, if selling prices in this segment remained stable the previous two weeks, then this week, the apple price of the new harvest began to fall rapidly.

According to the daily monitoring data of the project, apples from the 2023 crop are currently on sale at 17-24 UAH/kg ($0.46-0.66/kg), which is, on average, 26% cheaper than at the end of the last working week. The decrease in selling prices in this segment is associated with key market players with rather large volumes of last year’s imported apples on the market. Meanwhile, Ukrainian growers have also been shipping apples of the new crop to the market for several weeks. It is worth noting that the demand for apples is low, as buyers often prefer seasonal fruits and berries.

At the same time, an equally rapid decline in selling prices is observed in the segment of last year’s imported apples. So, in just a week, these products fell in price by an average of 17%, and today imported apples of the 2022 harvest go on sale at 20-27 UAH/kg ($0.55-0.74/kg).

But, despite such a rapid decline in selling prices, apples of a new crop in Ukraine currently cost an average of 65% more than in the same period last year. Prices for imported apples have risen by an average of 2.7 times over the year.
