In the Christmas week sales of herbs triple

At Christmas people tend to splash out a bit and buy ingredients that they might not use regularly, this is true for fresh herbs. According to Andrew Smith from Butler Market Gardens demand for herbs increases significantly in the run up to Christmas, HortiDaily notes.

“In the Christmas week we sell up to three times more herbs than normal. All herbs sell well, but the strongest sellers are coriander, continental parsley, basil, mint, dill and chives. The last three see the biggest increase at this time of the year.”

According to Andrew some Australians will have a traditional turkey or roast with vegetables, but some will go for a BBQ with salad. “Its summer here and the trend seems to be heading towards more BBQs and salads.

“Whatever people choose to eat they still use herbs. For roasts its herbs such as sage, rosemary and thyme and for salads it’s the softer herbs like basil, coriander and dill. These are popular herbs all year round, but people just use more at Christmas time.”

Looking forward to 2024, Butler Market Gardens will continue to focus on improving and increasing the production capacity of their existing lines and servicing their existing customers, but are always open to look at new markets.
