In June 2023 Uzbekistan continued to increase the volume of watermelon exports

In early June EastFruit wrote that this year the season for exporting Uzbek watermelon of the new crop started very successfully. In May of this year Uzbekistan exported record volumes of watermelon – about 30 thousand tons at the beginning of the season.

In June Uzbek exporters continued to increase the volume of shipments of these products to foreign markets. In the first two months of this season the total export volume of Uzbek watermelon amounted to almost 80,000 tons. However, in July the growth rate of exports of these products will decrease, EasrFruit experts say.

According to preliminary trade statistics, in May-June 2023 Uzbekistan exported 79.9 thousand tons of these products, which is 26% more than in the same period last year and almost quadrupled compared to the same period of 2021.

Moreover, in the first two months of the current season Uzbekistan exported almost the same amount of watermelon in physical terms as was shipped during last year’s season, when a historical record was set. In 2022 the season for watermelon export from Uzbekistan started on May 15-20 and ended by mid-November. During these six months the volume of shipments of Uzbek watermelon to foreign markets amounted to 81.8 thousand tons.

However, the growth rate of watermelon exports will slow down significantly in July.

Last year, July accounted for about 15% of annual shipments. Based on last year’s dynamics of monthly exports of these products, EastFruit analysts believe that by the end of July this year, the total export of watermelon from Uzbekistan may be in the range of 90-95 thousand tons.
