Egypt strengthens Its presence in German fresh grape market

Egyptian grape exports to Germany continue to grow. After setting a record in 2023, exporters have further increased their shipments, delivering 26.5 thousand tons of grapes worth $739 million to the German market in 2024, according to EastFruit. This volume is a new record, surpassing the 2023 shipments by nearly 30% and more than doubling the 2022 figures.

The export period for Egyptian grapes to Germany spanned from May to August, with July being the pivotal month that ensured the record shipment volumes in 2024, totaling 12.2 thousand tons.

In Egypt’s grape export structure, shipments to Germany account for approximately 20%, second only to sales to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

The primary suppliers of grapes to the German market are Italy, South Africa, and India, which together provide more than half of the country’s imports. Over the past two years, Egypt has been actively strengthening its position in the German market. In 2019, Egypt’s share of total grape imports to Germany was less than 4%, but by 2023, it had exceeded 5%, and in the first ten months of 2024, it reached over 8%. However, considering that the grape export season in Egypt has ended and statistical data for the last two months are still pending, the final figure may be slightly lower. Nevertheless, it is highly likely that Egypt will maintain its position among the top five grape suppliers to Germany by the end of the year, replicating the previous season’s results.

As previously reported by EastFruit, Egypt has successfully increased its fresh grape exports not only to Germany but also to other European Union countries, including the Netherlands, Finland, Ireland, and others.
