Egypt continues to expand its orange exports to France, according to EastFruit. After achieving a record volume of fruit exports to French markets in 2023, exporters have continued to push forward. By the end of 2024, the volume of orange exports from Egypt to France reached 42.7 thousand tons, a 26% increase compared to the previous year. However, revenue from these exports decreased by 9%, totaling $25.3 million.
The active export period for oranges from Egypt to France traditionally spans from January to August, with the peak occurring between April and June. However, 2023 was an exception, with January export volumes exceeding the five-year average by 4.5 times. Record export volumes continued through May, with the peak in February.
Spain remains the primary exporter of oranges to France, supplying more than half of the country’s orange imports. South Africa, Portugal, Italy, and since 2023, Egypt, compete for the remaining share. Egypt’s share in France’s import structure continues to grow. While Egyptian oranges accounted for less than 2% of total imports in 2022, this figure rose to 8% in 2023 and increased to 9.7% by the end of 2024. Consequently, Egypt has maintained the third position in the ranking of orange exporters to France for the second consecutive year. Interestingly, the sharp increase in Egyptian exports coincided with a significant reduction in Moroccan orange shipments to France.

In addition to imports, France also actively exports oranges. In 2024, exports amounted to 43.9 thousand tons, with fruits being supplied to Spain, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, and other countries. It can be inferred that some of the Egyptian oranges exported to France also reach these markets.
It is worth noting that Egypt, as the world’s leading orange exporter, is also actively increasing its orange supplies to the Brazilian market.
