Early cabbage in Ukraine fell by 33% in a week

The price of white cabbage of the new harvest in Ukraine is declining, analysts of the APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits project report. Market participants attribute the downward trend in prices for early cabbage to the seasonal increase in its supply from local farms. At the same time, it is not sold much.

Farmers say heavy rains across most of the country have already had a detrimental effect on the quality of the new harvest of white cabbage. High humidity and heavy rainfall negatively affected the quality, as a result, cabbage started to crack. At the same time, representatives of wholesale companies are already refusing to purchase large volumes of white cabbage because of its low quality.

As a result, today most producers offer early cabbage for sale at 2-4 UAH/kg ($ 0.07-0.15/kg), which is on average 33% cheaper than at the end of the last work week.

It is also worth noting that early cabbage in Ukraine today costs on average 26% cheaper than in the same period last year. Key market players say there might be a further decline in prices in this segment, since the supply of cabbage on the market will increase, and consumers are not always satisfied with the quality of the supplied products.
