A noticeable reduction in the supply of greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market this week has allowed sellers to slightly increase wholesale prices in this segment, report analysts from the EastFruit project. The main supplier of the product at this time of year is traditionally Turkey, but in recent weeks Turkey has experienced unfavorable weather conditions, leading to a substantial reduction in the supply of greenhouse vegetables to external markets.
According to data from the project’s daily monitoring, today, tomatoes on the Ukrainian market are offered wholesale at 85-105 UAH/kg ($2.01-2.48/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than at the end of last week. However, experts note that sellers are hesitant to raise prices significantly more due to very weak demand from both wholesale companies and retail networks.

It should be noted that currently greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are already being sold at an average of 36% more expensive than in mid-January 2024. However, many market participants agree that this price situation in this segment is temporary. They do not rule out that as soon as next week, tomatoes may start to become cheaper again as Turkish vegetable supplies to the Ukrainian market normalize.
