Top fruit and vegetables of autumn 2024

This week, the Kantar Institute unveiled its ranking of the fruits and vegetables most popular with the French last autumn, based on the quantities purchased over a period of 3 months (P10/P11/P12). For fruit, the banana once again comes out on top, and for vegetables, the first place goes to the potato, FreshPlaza informs.

Kantar study lasting 12 weeks – consumption stopped on December 1st, 2024.

The banana is the most popular fruit

First place: the banana. It is the fruit most purchased by the French, with over 109,292 tons. A fruit that is “constantly on the rise, with an increase of almost 7% over the same period last year.”

Second place: apples. This seasonal fruit comes in 2nd place, with 98,845 tons purchased. However, this represents a 7% drop from the same period last year.

In third place comes the mandarin, with 52,179 tons purchased, an increase of almost 5%.

The potato is the number 1 most consumed vegetable

First place: the potato, with a record 180,788 tons bought by the French. “Steamed, fried, or roasted, this vegetable appeals to all target groups.”

In second place: is the tomato, with 66,807 tons purchased.

In third place comes the carrot, with 63,964 tons purchased. The vegetable saw an increase of almost 2% compared with the same period last year.

“Other fruits and vegetables round off the ranking, such as pumpkins, which recorded an impressive 20% increase this year, and kiwis, with an increase in sales of more than 32%. This ranking confirms the French people’s appetite for seasonal and exotic fruit and vegetables,” according to the Kantar Institute.
