Onion and cucumber prices decline as well as apply supply – weekly market review

EastFruit team provides another market update based on the trends observed at the EastFruit Trade Platform during the last week of February 2025.

Onion supply increased significantly, leading to a decrease in prices. There was also a rise in the supply of beetroot and cauliflower, while the availability of cabbage decreased. In Ukraine, local cucumbers made their first appearance, and the garlic season commenced in Egypt.

Apple supply is on the decline, which is a significant development in the fruit segment. Meanwhile, carrot prices in Ukraine continue to rise, and cucumber prices have started to drop. In Uzbekistan, tomato prices have been on an upward trajectory for four consecutive weeks.

Market activity on the EastFruit Trade Platform saw a resurgence after a two-week decline. Participants from 14 countries were active, with new offers coming from Azerbaijan and Greece. The top five countries in terms of product offerings were Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Iran, and Poland.

In the fruit segment, apple sales continued to dominate, although the supply is shrinking. In response to rapidly rising food prices, the Iranian government imposed a two-month ban on the export of apples, oranges, and dates.

Examining price changes by country, Ukraine experienced rising prices for cabbage and carrots, while prices for onions and cucumbers fell. In Uzbekistan, cucumber prices stabilized, tomato prices continued to rise, and the price range for carrots narrowed. In Egypt, carrot prices decreased, and the garlic season began with the first price offers appearing on the platform.

In the technological group, sales of fruit tree and berry seedlings, fertilizers, and packaging materials remained steady. There was also an increase in the offerings of seeds and seedlings for greenhouse vegetables.
