In Serbia Economic Cooperative produces over 8 million fruit, rootstock and other plants annually

“Economic Cooperative doo Serbia” is specialized nursery for the production of fruit plants: apples, pears, cherries, plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, grapevines, raspberries, blackberries, walnuts, hazelnuts, etc., and also rootstock plants, rose seedlings and ornamental plants with an annual output of over 8 million plants.

The Economic Cooperative is specialized in a nursery production in partnership with Max Trade International doo and ZZ Evro-Kalem-Trade doo in Serbia, Poljoagro doo and Agro-Impex TR in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Agro Flora dooel in North Macedonia).

The production in this nursery is under constant drip irrigation with the addition of fertilizers and protection agents, ensuring that the majority of production is first-class seedlings.

“The fruit plants from our nursery are meticulously cultivated to perfection. Successfully establishing a partnership with the Plant Health Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture, our plants undergo rigorous control and analysis multiple times a year. This assures our customers of virus-free (VF) and 100% healthy material, setting new standards in the industry”, – say Vladislav Vuckovic, managing director of the Economic Cooperative doo and Sasa Spasojevic, manager of the Max Trade International doo.

KNIP apple trees and the ‘Oblacinska’ sour cherry phenomenon

The Economic Cooperative offers an impressive variety of fruit plants that cater to the diverse requirements of their valued customers.

Serbia, recognized among the top five producers of cherries globally, boasts the renowned “Oblacinska” sour cherry variety.

Vladislav Vuckovic says, that as a specialized nursery for this cherished variety, with the leading variety “Oblacinska” the Economic Cooperative has contributed to the establishment of over 2.000 hectares mainly in Serbia, but also in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, EU countries and Russia.

“Oblacinska” sour cherry is known for:

  • Flavor and Aroma: “Oblacinska” sour cherries have an excellent taste, sweet with a slight tartness. They are often used in desserts, jams and juices, providing a special taste and enjoyment.

Oblacinska sour cherry variety was named after its first major plantation in Oblacina, near the town of Prokuplje, Serbia. Oblacinska sour cherry ripens in the third decade of June. The tree is medium vigorous and it gives regular and abundant yields. This sour cherry variety is suitable for modern and industrial dense orchards and is gaining popularity in sweet cherry fruit growing industry. It is relatively resilient to frost and drought. The fruits of Oblacinska are medium-large, weighing around 3,50 grams on average, rounded in shape and dark red in color. The flesh is juicy, medium firm, with a pleasant aroma and sour in taste. The juice made from Oblacinska sour cherry has an intense red color. On the market, it is present as a table variety but also frozen, as well as canned or used in juices. Oblacinska sour cherry fruit trees are produced in our nurseries as excellent quality planting material aimed for a modern and professional orchard.
