Analysts of the EastFruit project report that whereas at the end of last week prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Poland were actively growing, today the situation has changed dramatically. Market participants report that the demand in the greenhouse cucumber segment has significantly decreased. At the same time, the supply of these products on the market was more than sufficient. Cucumbers were shipped from local farms and were also regularly imported from Spain.
Due to these conditions, sellers revised the selling prices for greenhouse cucumbers downward to activate the sales rate and prevent the accumulation of large volumes of unsold products in warehouses. So, currently, cucumber’s main sales from local greenhouses are carried out at $2.13-2.40/kg, which is on average 10% cheaper than at the end of the last working week.
According to industry experts, the decline in cucumber prices is due to several factors. First of all, the downward price trend is provoked by the relatively low sales rates. Simultaneously, the supply of cucumbers from Spain has significantly increased, which has an extremely negative effect on prices in this segment.
Today the price for local cucumbers in Poland is already on average 30% lower than in the same period last year.
