Fresh carrot prices in Ukraine began to rise

Fresh carrot prices in Ukraine began to rise from the beginning of December 2023, analysts of the EastFruit project report. Despite higher prices, demand remains robust, which keeps pushes carrot prices further up.

Today, Ukrainian producers are already shipping high-quality carrots for 11-15 UAH/kg wholesale, which is equivalent to US $0.29-0.40/kg. This is on average 10% more than at the end of the previous week. At the same time, industry experts emphasize that the upward trend in prices is observed exclusively in the segment of high-quality carrots, which are purchased for further storage.

According to market participants, the main driver of price growth in the carrot segment was the increased demand for these products on the eve of the New Year holidays. Wholesale companies and retail chains are building up stocks and are ready to revise purchase prices upward, but only for high-quality products.

It is worth noting that, despite another increase in the prices of carrots, today they are still 25% cheaper than in the same period of 2022. However, prices were exceptionally high last year due to destruction by Russian occupiers of key carrot growing areas in the south of Ukraine. Otherwise, even it USD this would have been the highest wholesale price for carrots ever registered in the second half of December.

Analysts of EastFruit do not exclude further price increases in the segment of high-quality carrots in the near future due to a gradual decrease in the volume of high-quality carrots in the storage facilities of local growers.
