Trade mission to Singapore & Malaysia for fruit and vegetable exporters from Egypt

In December 2025, the FAO/EBRD-led project will organize a mission for Egyptian fruit and vegetable exporters to Southeast Asia. The initiative aims to connect Egypt, one of global leaders in fresh and frozen produce segments, with Southeast Asia, one of a few regions of the world experiencing steady growth in fruit and vegetable imports.

Tentative program:

  • December 1: Arrival to Singapore
  • December 2: B2B meetings with Singaporean importers and retailers
  • December 3: Departure from Singapore and arrival to Kuala Lumpur
  • December 4: B2B meetings with Malaysian importers and retailers
  • December 5: Business visits
  • December 6: Departure from Malaysia

Participants from Egypt:

The focus is on the quality of participants rather than quantity. We plan to select 12 to 15 Egyptian exporters through a rigorous selection process, which includes:

  • Verification by local associations
  • Verification of production and export volumes
  • Verification of export experience
  • Verification of readiness to cooperate with Singaporean and Malaysian importers
  • Verification of knowledge of Southeast Asian market specifics, logistics costs, varietal and product preferences, etc.

We will host a preparational webinar to share regional market insights and provide Egyptian exporters with up-to-date market analytics. Each exporter is expected to be represented by a decision-maker (CEO, director, or general manager) to ensure high-level representation. We aim to include exporters ready to start shipping their products almost immediately after the B2B meetings, making the event fruitful for both exporters and importers.

 Participants from Singapore and Malaysia:

We plan to have 10-15 importers and retailers from each country for the B2B meetings, representing 70-75% of the total annual fresh produce imports in Singapore and Malaysia.

Format of B2B Meetings:

Meetings will follow a strict schedule, pre-designed and shared with each participant. Each meeting will last 15 minutes. Importers from Singapore and Malaysia will have their own tables, and Egyptian exporters will rotate according to their meeting schedules. Our goal is to organize the meetings efficiently and effectively, as demonstrated in Warsaw in November 2024, or Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in April 2025.

Why Singapore & Malaysia?

  • A combined population of nearly 42 mln people, diverse in cultures, religions, consumer habits, and demographics
  • Robust economic growth (above US and EU) combined with healthy demographics with a strong trend for healthier diets create many new niche opportunities for imported high quality produce
  • Both Malaysia and Singapore remain net importers of fresh produce, with combined annual import values nearing $3.7 billion – just slightly below Egypt’s total yearly fruit and vegetable exports
  • Both nations present strong potential for international trade expansion, hosting several of the world’s busiest seaports and serving as the trade gateway to the whole of Asia
  • Egypt is already among the leaders in fresh produce supply to both Singapore and Malaysia, including citrus fruits, fresh grapes, dates, fresh and frozen strawberries, onions, potatoes, and pomegranates – with additional growth potential on the horizon.
