Warm and sunny weather has been stimulating active ripening of strawberries in Ukrainian farms, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. As a result, the supply of these berries on the market is rapidly increasing, which in turn is causing a sharp decline in wholesale prices in this segment.
While last week average wholesale prices for strawberries in Ukraine did not fall below UAH 100–190/kg ($2.23–4.24/kg), this week they have been declining more significantly, especially in the southern and central regions of the country. In particular, producers are currently offering strawberries at UAH 80–170/kg ($1.78–3.79/kg), which is on average 15% lower than a week earlier.
Producers are forced to reduce prices in this segment due to the rapid increase in supply from local farms, while demand for these products remains relatively stable. At the same time, most market operators report a fairly high share of substandard berries in the current season. Heavy rainfall has significantly affected the quality characteristics of the product.

It is worth noting that as of today, strawberry prices in Ukraine are already on average 11% lower than in the same period last year. At the same time, key market players do not rule out further price declines in this segment as early as next week. They explain this by the continued growth in supply, while the quality of the berries offered does not always meet consumer expectations.
