Tomato prices continue to decline in Ukraine

Prices for greenhouse tomatoes continue to decline on the Ukrainian market this week, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. This trend is primarily driven by an increase in harvesting volumes at greenhouse farms across most regions of the country, along with weaker demand in this segment. In addition, steady supplies of vegetables from foreign markets continue to put pressure on prices.

As of today, local greenhouse producers offer tomatoes at prices ranging from UAH 130–160 per kg ($2.95–3.63/kg), which is on average 10% lower than at the end of last working week.

Market operators note that the supply of locally grown produce continues to gradually expand. Each day, more Ukrainian stationary greenhouse complexes enter the active marketing phase for this product.

At the same time, despite the current downward adjustment, prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine remain on average 73% higher than in the same period last year. Most market participants do not rule out further price declines in this segment. According to producers, if current sales rates persist, they will be forced to make additional price concessions in order to avoid excessive accumulation of unsold produce in warehouses.
