This week, the Ukrainian market has begun to experience a shortage of greenhouse tomatoes, which has allowed importers to slightly increase prices for the available batches of vegetables, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Experts explain this price trend by a reduction in the supply of imported tomatoes to Ukraine, particularly from Turkey, due to decreased shipment volumes from that country.
As a result, by the end of the current week, tomatoes in Ukraine are being offered at 120–140 UAH/kg ($2.73–3.19/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than at the end of last working week.

It should be noted that last week importers and wholesale companies were focused on selling off vegetables purchased earlier in the month but not sold in time. At the same time, fresh deliveries to the Ukrainian market were minimal. Consequently, a shortage of tomatoes has already formed on the domestic market, which has enabled importers to raise prices in this segment.
According to market participants, an increase in tomato imports from Turkey is expected in the near future, which should help balance the market and stabilize prices.
It is also worth noting that imported tomatoes in Ukraine are currently sold at 45% higher prices compared to the same period last year. More detailed information about the greenhouse tomato market and other fruit and vegetable products in Ukraine is available on the EastFruit website.
