According to daily monitoring by the EastFruit project, this week in Ukraine’s fruit and vegetable market has been marked by a decrease in wholesale prices for table beets, driven by the beginning of active sales of stored root crops from household farms.
Project data indicates that the slowdown in sales has already negatively affected prices — since the beginning of the week, beet prices in Ukraine have dropped by an average of 15%. As of today, most transactions for table beet sales are taking place in the range of 4–9 UAH/kg ($0,09–0,20/kg), depending on product quality and batch volume.
Market participants report that the main reason for the price decline is the seasonal increase in supply. Low demand from retail chains and wholesale companies has also added downward pressure on prices.
It is worth noting that table beets in Ukraine are currently being sold at prices 65% lower on average compared to the same period last year.
