The Ukrainian market is facing an oversupply of plums from local farms, which is putting significant pressure on prices in this segment, according to analysts at the EastFruit project. Market participants report that demand from local wholesale companies for these fruits remains relatively weak, while supply volumes continue to increase due to seasonal factors.
Currently, prices for locally grown plums range from UAH 15-35/kg ($0.34-0.79/kg), which is on average 24% lower than at the end of the previous working week.
It should be noted that high air temperatures have accelerated plum ripening while at the same time negatively affecting fruit quality, which is also exerting additional pressure on prices.
It is also worth noting that plums in Ukraine are currently being sold at prices that are on average 24% lower than at the end of August last year. At the same time, growers do not rule out the possibility that under the current circumstances they will be forced to make further concessions to buyers and continue lowering prices in this segment.
