Onion prices begin to rise in Ukraine

The price of onions has started to increase on the Ukrainian domestic market since the beginning of this week, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Farmers have been able to raise onion prices due to strong demand for this product from wholesale companies and retail chains.

At the moment, most Ukrainian farmers are willing to sell onions at no less than UAH 13-20/kg ($0.29-0.45/kg), which is on average 21% higher than at the end of the previous working week.

Market participants attribute the positive price trend in this segment to strong purchasing activity from wholesale companies, which are buying onions both for current sales and for storage. At the same time, the supply of high-quality onions remains rather limited, as farmers prefer to place maximum volumes of such produce into storage.

It should be noted that onion prices in Ukraine are already significantly higher than a year ago. In early September 2025, farmers were selling onions at prices 32% lower than those recorded today. Key market players consider this price increase to be temporary, as onion harvesting in Ukrainian farms is still ongoing, while market supply is expected to remain sufficiently high until mid-October.
