Morocco expands lemon exports, poised for record season in 2025/26

Morocco has continued its rebound in lemon exports, surpassing last season’s totals within the first six months of 2025/26, according to EastFruit. Between October 2025 and March 2026, the country exported 11,400 tons of lemons, valued at more than USD 6 million. This represents a 17% increase over the entire 2024/25 season and more than double the volumes of 2023/24.

February marked the seasonal peak, with 4,200 tons shipped abroad.

Russia emerged as the leading destination, increasing purchases sevenfold and accounting for nearly half (48.2%) of Morocco’s lemon exports. Mauritania held second place, while the UK ranked third despite a 25% decline in volumes.

Spain recorded a dramatic surge, with imports rising 25-fold to secure fourth place, followed by France with a 5.1% share. Saudi Arabia posted the sharpest growth, with imports expanding more than 1,000 times compared to last season. Additional growth was seen in Italy, Mali, Nigeria, and Gambia, while Canada, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso reduced purchases.

The strong performance in the first half of the season positions Morocco to potentially match or exceed its 2019/20 record of 17,100 tons.
