Morocco has significantly expanded its footprint in Northern Europe’s tomato market, doubling direct exports to Finland in the current season, according to EastFruit. Between July 2025 and February 2026, Finland imported 2,200 tons of Moroccan tomatoes, valued at nearly EUR 6 million. This marks a twofold increase over the 2024/25 season and surpasses the combined volumes of the previous two years, setting a new bilateral record 50% higher than the previous peak in 2022/23.

Finland’s tomato market is largely self-sufficient in summer but heavily reliant on imports in winter. The Netherlands and Spain dominate supply, together covering 75-80% of imports. Spain leads from December to March, while Dutch tomatoes prevail from May to October. France traditionally held third place with around 15% of imports, but in early 2026 its shipments fell sharply, while Morocco’s surged.
