High demand and seasonal supply constraints push greenhouse cucumber prices higher in Ukraine

This week, prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine have increased, according to analysts from the EastFruit project.

Several key factors have contributed to the current situation. First, demand for cucumbers has remained consistently high, with both retail chains and large wholesale companies actively purchasing the product. At the same time, market supply continues to be limited. Market participants report that harvesting volumes at local greenhouse complexes are low and irregular, which is explained by seasonal factors.

As a result, greenhouse cucumbers are currently being sold at prices ranging from UAH 115 to 145 per kilogram ($2.67–3.36/kg), which is on average 10% higher than at the end of the previous working week.

At the same time, the market has been steadily supplied with imported cucumbers, mainly from Turkey. However, despite stable imports, the available volumes have been insufficient to meet existing demand. Under these conditions, sellers have gradually increased wholesale prices for both domestically produced and imported cucumbers.

It is worth noting that greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are currently sold at prices averaging 15% higher than during the same period last year. Ukrainian greenhouse producers plan to supply the first batches of cucumbers from the new production cycle no earlier than mid-February of this year.

More detailed information on the development of the greenhouse cucumber market and other fruit and vegetable segments in Ukraine is available on the EastFruit website.
