At Ukrainian Prometey farm, a well-designed crop rotation system is applied, including potatoes, wheat, green manure crops (cover crops), onions, and other vegetables, AgroTimes reports. This was described by Orysia Knyshuk, Director of the diversified agricultural enterprise, in her article published in Plantator magazine.
“For green manure crops, we use the Austrian mix ‘Wezer Grüne Früh’, which includes phacelia, vetch, Alexandrian clover, common clover, and oilseed radish resistant to nematodes,” she wrote. “This mix is effective under different conditions: clover performs best in moist soil, while phacelia is drought-tolerant. In addition, clover efficiently fixes nitrogen, while simultaneously improving soil structure and increasing organic matter content. Such comprehensive soil preparation also contributes to a significant suppression of weeds.”
After the green manure crops, the first step at the farm is soil loosening, followed by the application of mineral fertilizers: 300 kg of potassium chloride and 200 kg of diammonium phosphate. This is then followed by deep ploughing, leveling, and soil cultivation, the farmer added.
