Blueberry prices are declining in Ukraine

Blueberry prices in Ukraine have begun to decline rapidly, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. At the same time, key market participants note that a drop in blueberry prices during this period is not unusual: this is typically the time when active harvesting begins, leading to a sharp increase in market supply.

According to the project’s daily monitoring data, blueberries from Ukrainian farms have become cheaper by an average of 17% since the end of last working week alone. Currently, growers are selling blueberries at UAH 300–400/kg ($6.75–8.99/kg), whereas just a week ago they were unwilling to ship the berries at prices below UAH 380/kg ($8.54/kg).

According to producers, the price decline in this segment is being driven by several factors. Market supply has increased compared to last week as most farmers have started large-scale harvesting. In addition, prices are under pressure from the availability of substantial volumes of relatively inexpensive seasonal fruits and berries on the market.

It should be noted that blueberries in Ukraine are still selling at prices that are, on average, 37% higher than during the same period last year. Market participants attribute this price difference to lower blueberry yields in Ukrainian farms caused by abnormal weather conditions during the berry ripening period.
