This week, the Ukrainian greenhouse tomato market is experiencing another wave of price increases, according to EastFruit analysts. Due to consistently low demand for this product over the past few weeks, importers were forced to reduce the volume of tomato shipments to the domestic market. As a result, – the decline in supply, combined with relatively stable demand, has triggered a new round of price growth in this segment.

As of today, greenhouse tomato prices range between 140–160 UAH/kg ($3.19–3.65/kg), which is on average 16% higher than at the end of last working week. Experts attribute this price trend to a reduction in the supply of imported tomatoes in Ukraine — currently sourced mainly from Turkey — driven in part by seasonal factors.

It is also noted that tomato prices in Ukraine are now on average 89% higher than during the same period last year. Market participants do not rule out further price increases if tomato supplies from Turkey to Ukraine do not stabilize in the near future. It is also important to note that sales of domestically grown greenhouse tomatoes will not begin before mid‑April of this year.
