World garlic imports stood at almost 742,000 tons

According to market analyst Heber Chavez, world garlic imports in the first half of 2024 reached 741,829.9 tons, i.e. 1.5% less than in the same period of 2023.

In the first half of 2024, Indonesia led the imports, with 25.9% of the global import volume, followed by Malaysia with 13.3%, FreshPlaza notes. The rest of the importing countries accounted for the remaining 60.8%.

Brazil is the third largest importer of this product worldwide, Chávez stated. In this period, it grew by 23.6% compared to last year.

Thailand was the country that increased its garlic imports the most (+215.7%), making it the world’s sixth-largest garlic importer.
