Cucumber is one of the most popular vegetables in the world. Thus, growers often like to brag to their colleagues about the size of their cucumbers, often exaggerating by a lot. In this regard, the EastFruit team decided to do all the cucumbers and based only on true and well-documented facts, create a rating of the largest cucumbers ever grown by people.
However, when compiling a rating of the largest cucumbers, we encountered an unexpected but not an unusual dilemma – what is more important: the length of the cucumber or its thickness?
Since preferences are a purely individual thing, we decided to take both parameters into account.
So, let’s start with the length of the cucumber. The longest, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is a British-Polish cucumber grown by Sebastian Suski from the UK in 2022. Sebastian, who after setting the world record, proudly posed in front of the photographers with his more than meter-long cucumber, is originally from Poland. The cucumber seeds, he said, also came from a colleague in Poland, and performed well in the fertile soil of Southampton in the UK. By the way, the length of this incredible cucumber was exactly 1 meter and 13 centimeters, so the vegetable grower had to throw his cucumber over his shoulder while walking!
But for those who prefer thickness and weight to the length of a cucumber, another record holder will be of interest. The heaviest cucumber in history, which weighed 13.4 kilograms, was grown by a man whose name is Vincent Sedin. The cucumber grew in the UK and was harvested on September 23, 2023. Perhaps there is something in the water in the UK?!
There are also reports in the press that, allegedly, a certain Chinese farmer named Akele He in 2010 grew a cucumber, which was as long as 170 cm. However, this record was not officially recorded. Moreover, unlike previous record holders, the Chinese vegetable grower did not try to break records for the length or weight of his cucumbers, but simply generously watered his cucumber and fed it with horse manure. He himself was allegedly surprised when he discovered that his cucumber had reached such a gigantic size.
We hope that this information will not have a demotivating effect on those farmers whose cucumbers do not reach the records in terms of length or thickness. After all, the most important thing is not the size, but the quality! After all, the well-being of the entire enterprise depends on the quality and ability to sell your advantages well.
