White Cabbage Prices Continue to Decline in Ukraine

This week, Ukraine has seen a downward trend in white cabbage prices, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. Producers attribute this situation to an oversupply in the market, with a large share of the available volume consisting of mid-late varieties unsuitable for long-term storage.

At present, producers are offering white cabbage at prices ranging from UAH 5–10/kg ($0.12–0.24/kg), which is on average 16% lower than at the end of last week.

Analysts note that harvesting remains in full swing in most farms, leading to a further increase in supply. Meanwhile, demand for cabbage remains very weak. Wholesale companies and retail chains are purchasing only small wholesale lots, citing short shelf life, as much of the produce currently offered by farmers is of relatively low quality.

It is also worth noting that current cabbage prices in Ukraine are already around 66% lower than during the same period last year. However, market participants do not rule out further declines, as many farms are actively harvesting due to improved weather conditions. As a result, the gradual increase in market supply is likely to continue pressuring producers to lower prices unless the pace of sales improves.
