This week, melon prices in Ukraine have risen significantly, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. The main factors driving price growth in this segment are the seasonal reduction in supply and relatively strong consumer demand.
Compared to last week, melons in Ukrainian farms have increased in price by an average of 40%, which farmers attribute primarily to the seasonal decline in supply. At present, many farms in the southern regions of the country have almost completed harvesting early melon varieties, while the harvest of later varieties is not expected to begin until closer to the end of this month. In addition, many producers are currently facing quality issues with melons due to unfavourable weather conditions.

As of today, wholesale batches of melons are being shipped directly from the field at 26–40 UAH/kg ($0.63–0.97/kg). It is worth noting that at the moment, these melons are being sold in Ukrainian farms at an average of 2.9 times the price recorded during the same period last year. According to industry experts, this significant price difference is primarily due to reduced melon production in the country as a result of adverse weather conditions.
