Ukraine: Decline in Supply Drives Cucumber Prices Up

Following a sharp drop in cucumber prices observed in Ukraine the previous week, the market has once again shifted toward a positive price trend, according to analysts from the EastFruit project.

Experts attribute the price increase to a significant reduction in the supply of cucumbers from local producers. Most greenhouse complexes across the country are currently clearing out their existing crops in preparation for the second planting cycle, which has led to a noticeable decrease in harvest volumes. At the same time, the supply of cucumbers from summer greenhouses has also declined, driven by slower harvesting rates due to unfavorable weather conditions.

As a result, prices for greenhouse cucumbers have now reached UAH 30–50 per kg ($0.72–1.20/kg), which is on average 13% higher than at the end of last week.

It is worth noting that, despite the recent price increase, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are still selling at an average of 16% less than during the same period last year. However, key market players caution that further price hikes in this segment could have a negative impact on sales performance.
