Tomato prices in Ukraine continue to rise

A limited supply of greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market is allowing local producers to actively increase prices for this product, report analysts from the EastFruit project. Notably, tomato prices in Ukraine have been rising for the third consecutive week.

According to daily monitoring data from the project, as of today, Ukrainian greenhouse complexes are offering tomatoes at 80–90 UAH/kg ($1.91–2.15/kg), which is on average 14% higher than at the end of last week.

Market participants note that current deliveries of greenhouse tomatoes from local producers are both limited and unstable. Several farms have already announced the completion of sales for the current production cycle, while in other stationary greenhouses, the ripening of crops has slowed significantly due to colder weather. Supplies from temporary (film) greenhouses have stopped altogether. Moreover, it has not yet been possible to compensate for the shortage of local greenhouse vegetables with imports.

As a result of the ongoing price increase, tomato prices in Ukraine are now on average 22% higher than at the end of October 2024. Producers plan to continue raising prices in this segment if current sales rates are maintained, citing the limited availability of domestic produce as the main reason.

More detailed information on the development of the Ukrainian greenhouse tomato market and other fruit and vegetable sectors is available on the EastFruit website.
