Tomato Prices Declining in Ukraine

This week, prices for greenhouse tomatoes have begun to decline on the domestic market in Ukraine, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. The main factors behind this trend are the increasing harvest volumes from greenhouses across nearly the entire country, along with subdued demand in this segment. Additionally, stable imports of tomatoes from external markets are contributing further downward pressure on prices.

As of today, local greenhouse producers are offering tomatoes at no more than 70–100 UAH/kg ($1.68–2.40/kg), which is on average 18% lower than at the end of last week.

Market operators report that the supply of local tomatoes continues to grow steadily, as more Ukrainian greenhouse facilities are entering the sales season with each passing day.

Nevertheless, it is important to note that current prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine remain approximately 15% higher than during the same period last year. However, many market participants do not rule out further price reductions in the local tomato segment. According to producers, if current sales volumes persist, they may be forced to reduce prices further to avoid an oversupply of unsold stock in storage.
