Tomato Prices Continue to Decline in Ukraine

This week, Ukraine has seen a renewed downward trend in greenhouse tomato prices, according to analysts at the EastFruit project. In many regions, weather conditions have stabilized, allowing the harvesting of both open-field and greenhouse tomatoes to resume. As of today, harvesting is underway almost nationwide, and market pressure is increasing daily, as consumer demand, according to farmers, remains low.

At present, prices for high-quality tomatoes have fallen to UAH 40–55/kg (USD 0.96–1.32/kg), which is on average 12% lower than at the end of last week. Both growers and wholesale companies attribute difficulties in selling open-field tomatoes to their poor quality. Plants are suffering severely from drought and heat, with fruits often damaged by sunburn and cracks, which reduces their marketable appearance.

It should be noted that, despite the decline in greenhouse tomato prices, this product is still offered on the Ukrainian market at prices averaging 69% higher than a year ago. Ukrainian producers explain this by a decrease in domestic production.
