The first national ale made from supersweet corn presented in Ukraine

Ukrainian company MNAGOR, known for creating unique multicolored varieties and hybrids of sweet corn, has expanded into a new line of business by developing the first Ukrainian ale made from supersweet corn, EastFruit reports.

The new product was presented by renowned breeder and founder of MNAGOR, Mykhailo Nahorniak, during the conference “Profitable agribusiness 2026: Strategies. Innovations. Investments,” organized by the agri-media agency Sapienza.media together with the Ukrainian Horticulture Association (UHA) and industry associations.

“As the organizer of the “Profitable agribusiness 2026” conference, it is particularly valuable for me that our professional platform becomes a space where products emerge that combine science, breeding, processing, and creative entrepreneurship. Mykhailo Nahorniak’s project demonstrates a new development logic for agribusiness — when a producer creates not just raw materials, but a unique final product with high added value and its own brand story. Such cases are extremely important for Ukrainian producers, as they show real opportunities for income diversification, the development of niche segments, and entry into premium market categories. It is precisely innovation at the intersection of agricultural science, processing, and marketing that will shape the competitiveness of Ukraine’s agricultural sector in the coming years,” said Kateryna Zvierieva.

According to breeder Mykhailo Nahorniak, the project of creating a unique beer is the result of combining 20 years of breeding work with in-depth biochemical analysis.

“We view corn not as a raw material, but as a complex biological system whose potential we have unlocked through a unique processing technology. Most producers use dry grain — essentially biologically ‘dormant’ raw material. We focused instead on the milk-wax maturity stage, the phase of maximum biological activity of the plant.

This provides the beverage with a unique texture without adding artificial stabilizers. You are literally ‘preserving’ the youth of the plant in a glass, obtaining living energy at the molecular level. To achieve ideal purity of taste, we took an unprecedented step — removing the germ of the kernel, where the main proteins and fats are concentrated,” the breeder told SEEDS.

For the production of Ukrainian sweet corn ale, kernels of the supersweet corn variety Jamala were used. The company worked on the project for three years, searching for the right form, flavor, and concept. Only recently was the first pilot batch created.

Mykhailo Nahorniak has already submitted documents to the patent office to protect the unique production technology.
