Prices rising for Turkish tomatoes in Ukraine

There has been a noticeable increase in demand for greenhouse tomatoes on the eve of the New Year’s holiday provoking an active rise in prices for these products in the Ukrainian market, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. The analysts emphasize that at the moment the main market share is exclusively for imported tomatoes produced in Turkey.

According to the information from traders, Turkish tomatoes have risen in price on the Ukrainian market by an average of 10% since the beginning of the week. To date, imported tomatoes go on sale at 31-38 UAH/kg ($1.09 – 1.34/kg) depending on the quality, batch size, and variety of products offered.

Key market players are confident that we should expect an acceleration in the growth rates of prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine in the near future. In their opinion, the main reason is that Ukrainian greenhouse complexes have already announced the end of their season’s current turnover. Thus, almost the entire volume of tomatoes on the Ukrainian market is Turkish products.

It should be noted that as of December 24, 2020, imported tomatoes in Ukraine are already on average 18% more expensive than at the end of December last year.
