This week, prices for last year’s white cabbage in Ukraine have dropped sharply, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Market participants attribute the downward price trend to the rapid deterioration in the quality of the cabbage due to prolonged storage. At the same time, demand for the product remains low, which also puts pressure on prices.

According to project specialists, while prices for these vegetables reached up to 52 UAH/kg ($1.25/kg) just before the weekend, today the product is being offered for no more than 40–48 UAH/kg ($0.96–1.15/kg), which is on average 10% cheaper than at the end of the previous workweek.
It is worth noting that, as of today, the price for last year’s cabbage in Ukraine is still on average 6.4 times higher than during the same period last year. However, many key market players predict a further price decline in this segment. They justify this view by noting that most Ukrainian producers are currently struggling to sell their products, while the supply of early vegetables from farms across Ukraine continues to grow daily.
