Wholesale prices for the new onion crop in Uzbekistan began to decline in the second half of May and continued to fall over the past week. Over the last month, prices have dropped by 40%, driven by a gradual increase in the supply of new-season onions on the domestic market. According to EastFruit analysts, current prices remain three times higher than during the same period last year, and market participants predict that onion prices will remain significantly above last year’s levels at least until August.

According to EastFruit’s price monitoring, from May 9 to June 6, 2025, the average wholesale price for the new onion crop fell from 5,000 to 3,000 UZS/kg (from $0.39 to $0.23).
“May and June are typically the months when onion prices in Uzbekistan decline and stabilize. During this period, market supply increases due to the large-scale harvesting of mid- and late-season ‘August’ winter onions (sown in August–September of the previous year) in the southern regions of the country, as well as early- and mid-season varieties of ‘August’ onions in the central and northern parts of Uzbekistan.
However, it is important to note that the sown area for onions harvested between April and June this year has significantly decreased—by approximately 30–40% across Uzbekistan—compared to last year. This means that onion supply in the domestic market will remain limited, which will support prices,” the expert explained.
According to Usmanov, a more significant drop in onion prices in Uzbekistan can be expected in August, with the start of the mass harvest of onions sown in November–December of last year, as the planting area for this crop in 2024 remained at the same level as in 2023.
