Morocco has achieved a new milestone in its agricultural exports, setting a seasonal record for tomato shipments despite facing significant industry headwinds. According to EastFruit, data from Morocco’s Office des Changes via Global Trade Tracker shows that the country exported 745,000 tons of tomatoes during the 2024/25 season (July-June), generating nearly $1.2 billion in revenue. This marks an 8.3% increase over the previous season and surpasses the previous record set in 2022/23 by almost 4%.
Tomatoes remain Morocco’s top fruit and vegetable export, accounting for over 30% of the sector’s total foreign currency earnings. As of 2024, Morocco ranks third globally among tomato exporters, trailing only Mexico and the Netherlands.
Exports are distributed throughout the year, with peak volumes typically occurring between November and March. In November 2024, Morocco shipped a record-breaking 105,000 tons of tomatoes—the highest monthly volume to date.
Despite ongoing challenges such as prolonged drought and labor shortages, Morocco’s tomato export volumes continue to grow steadily.
France remains Morocco’s largest tomato importer, accounting for nearly half of total exports in the 2024/25 season. The United Kingdom secured its position as the second-largest market, purchasing over 15% of the total volume. The Netherlands and Spain, both major tomato exporters themselves, continue to increase imports from Morocco to extend their own export seasons.
Exports to Germany and Portugal also saw notable growth, while shipments to West African nations such as Mauritania and Senegal are steadily rising.

Secondary markets have become a major growth driver. Compared to the previous season, exports to these destinations rose by 40%, and by 62% compared to the record-setting 2022/23 season. These markets contributed 15,000 tons to the overall increase, accounting for half of the season’s growth. The total export record was exceeded by 28,000 tons.
Among the most promising emerging markets are Belgium, where exports have nearly quadrupled over the past two seasons, and Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Norway, which have seen record imports for three consecutive years. Sweden, Ireland, and Finland—virtually absent from Morocco’s export map three seasons ago—are now showing strong upward trends.
In addition to its success with tomatoes, Morocco also set a new record for cucumber exports during the 2024/25 season, further solidifying its position as a key global supplier of fresh produce.
