Morocco sets new record for pistachio imports in 2025

Morocco’s pistachio imports reached unprecedented levels in 2025, surpassing 4,000 tons for the first time, according to EastFruit. Last year, the country imported 4,050 tons of pistachios valued at USD 33.9 million, a 27.5% increase over 2024 and the highest volume ever recorded.

Imports have expanded steadily for six consecutive years, rising 11.5-fold since 2019. Over this period, average annual growth has been an impressive 50%.

The United States continues to dominate Morocco’s pistachio supply, providing 92% of imports in 2025. Turkey strengthened its position as the second-largest supplier, increasing shipments 3.5 times year-on-year, while Iran accounted for 2.2% of total imports.

Growing consumer demand and Morocco’s reliance on foreign supply have prompted the government to prioritize pistachio cultivation domestically. Under the national “Generation Green 2020-2030” strategy, pistachios have been designated a key crop for diversifying agriculture in arid regions.

In parallel, Morocco also achieved a milestone in 2025 by setting a new record for frozen strawberry exports to the United States.
