For four consecutive seasons, Morocco has been increasing its asparagus export volumes and setting new records. The current season is no exception, according to EastFruit. Based on Global Trade Tracker data from Morocco’s Office des Changes, from July 2024 to May 2025, Morocco exported 968 tons of asparagus worth a total of $6.6 million. This is a 47% increase compared to the previous season and marks a new national export record. The average annual growth rate of asparagus exports over the past five seasons has been 70%.

Although asparagus is not a key export category for Morocco—unlike tomatoes or bell peppers—the consistent growth in export volume and revenue highlights the potential of this sector. Asparagus exports are highly seasonal. In the past three seasons, the peak of Moroccan asparagus exports occurred in March and April.

However, thanks to modern agricultural technologies, the current season was extended into May, with significant volumes also exported in October

After entering the Belgian asparagus market last season, Morocco continued to expand in this direction. As a result, exports to Belgium accounted for over 62% of the total. Exports to Spain, which had declined last season, began to grow again, keeping Spain as the second most important destination. Exports to France and the UK remained at last season’s levels. However, there were no exports to the Netherlands in the 2024/25 season.
In addition to increasing export volumes, Morocco is actively exploring new markets. This season, the first shipments of Moroccan asparagus were sent to the UAE, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. The UAE not only became a new destination but also entered the top three key markets. In total, Moroccan asparagus was exported to nine countries this season, compared to seven last season.
Thanks to the rapid growth in asparagus exports, Morocco has also improved its position in the global asparagus exporter rankings. From 19th place in 2023, Morocco rose to 15th in 2024 and has a good chance of climbing even higher this year.
It’s worth noting that Morocco has also set a new carrot export record for the fifth consecutive season.
