Morocco exports the largest volume of lemons in the past five seasons

Morocco achieved its highest lemon export volumes in five seasons during 2024/25, reversing a four-year decline, according to EastFruit.

Between November 2024 and October 2025, the country exported 9,700 tons of lemons, valued at over USD 5 million. This represents an 80% increase compared to 2023/24 and marks the strongest performance since 2010/11, when exports reached a record 18,000 tons.

After nearly matching that record in 2019/20 with 17,000 tons, Moroccan lemon exports fell steadily, hitting a low of 5,300 tons in 2023/24. The 2024/25 season not only delivered substantial growth but also broke the downward trend.

Export patterns have also shifted. While shipments traditionally peaked in February and tapered off sharply from April, recent seasons have seen more balanced distribution. In 2024/25, April recorded the highest volumes, with May exports remaining robust.

Mauritania remains the leading destination, accounting for 45% of exports and marking its fourth consecutive year of growth. The United Kingdom ranked second, surpassing 1,000 tons for the first time in 17 years, followed by Russia with 9.2% of total shipments. The Netherlands and Canada resumed imports, while exports to France declined by 20%. Sales to smaller markets doubled, underscoring diversification in Morocco’s export portfolio.

In addition to lemons, Morocco successfully revived its watermelon exports in 2025.
